Chihuahuas 11, Salt Lake Bees 9

Key Statistics: RF Yonathan Perlaza 2-for-5, 2B, BB, 2 RBI; DH Luis Campusano 2-for-5, 2 R, HR (24), 2 RBI, BB; CF Tirso Ornelas 2-for-5, 2 R, HR (8), 2 RBI, BB; 1B Tim Locastro 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B; RHP Matt Waldron 5 IP, 9 H, 7 ER, BB, 4 K; RHP Bryan Hoeing 0.2 IP, H, ER, H, HBP; RHP Bradgley Rodriguez IP, H, ER, BB, K; RHP Stephen Jones (S, 1) IP

Prospect Watch: El Paso overcame a six-run deficit, then twice allowed the Bees to tie the game before scoring two runs in the ninth to defeat the home team in Salt Lake City. … Tirso Ornelas had a pair of extra-base hits, including his eighth homer of the season. Since coming off the injured list on August 8 the 24-year-old outfielder hitting .286/.391/.584. One of the longest-tenured players in the organization, Ornelas accrued a few weeks of big league service time early in the year, but he will have to await another opportunity. … Luis Campusano connected on a homer that briefly gave El Paso the lead in the eighth. The 26-year-old continues to obliterate PCL pitching and is likely to be named PCL MVP. He ranks second in the circuit with a .330 batting average, and his .437 on-base percentage and .609 slugging percentage lead the league. The right-handed hitter’s performance has obviously not been enough to earn the Padres’ trust for another return to the big leagues, but he remains an option if the team opts for some right-handed thump off the bench. … Matt Waldron’s poor stretch extended into September as the knuckleballer was torched again. While he lasted five innings, he allowed seven runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out four. Over his last 19.2 innings, the former Nebraska righty has allowed a staggering 29 earned runs and 36 hits. Waldron was fantastic in July, pitching to a 2.63 ERA, however his usage of his primary weapon has dwindled since. He used in only 41% of the time Tuesday. Waldron is a key depth piece for the Padres, but he’s going to need to turn things around in order to receive another opportunity.

Roster Moves: It was another busy day on the final Tuesday when all four full-season teams are still in action. Utilityman Tyler Wade was removed from El Paso’s roster and sent to the ACL. Wade had a .728 OPS for the Chihuahuas in 23 games. Infielder Luis De Leon, who joined El Paso to provide emergency infield coverage late last week, was also sent back to Peoria. Marcos Castañon was also promoted to the El Paso roster, marking his first opportunity in Triple-A. In addition, Bryan Hoeing was activated from the injured list, and Randy Vásquez was reinstated from the temporarily inactive list.

Corpus Christi Hooks 2, Missions 1 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: 3B Devin Ortiz 2-for-4; RF Moisés Gómez 1-for-4, 2B, RBI; C Christopher Sargent 1-for-4, SB (1); RHP Eric Yost, 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 6 K; RHP Garrett Hawkins 1.2 IP, BB, 2 K; LHP Harry Gustin (L, 0-1) 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 3 K

Prospect Watch: The Missions once again struggled offensively, and the Hooks pushed across the Manfred man in the tenth to defeat San Antonio at Wolff Stadium without managed an earned run on the night. … Moisés Gómez had a double and drove in the only run for the Missions in the loss. Like so many other Missions hitters, the former Cardinals farmhand has had a miserable time hitting at Wolff Stadium. The 27-year-old is slugging a paltry .263 at home while posting a much more respectable .470 mark on the road. After hitting 69 homers in the Cardinals organization in 2022-2023, he’s connected on just seven this season. … While the bats were cold, the Missions received a fantastic outing from Eric Yost. The 22-year-old worked six strong innings, allowing only one unearned run on four hits. He walked a pair and struck out six batters. Despite a recent rough stretch when he allowed 12 earned runs over 12.1 innings, Yost has been outstanding between San Antonio and Fort Wayne this year. The Northeastern University alum has tossed an organization-high 118 innings while pitching to a 3.20 ERA. After he Padres parted with three starters on the 40-man roster at the trade deadline, Yost’s emergence could be important to the system’s starting pitching depth in 2026. … Garrett Hawkins hasn’t been unhittable with the Missions like he was with the TinCaps, but he looked sharp Tuesday. The 25-year-old recorded five outs and walked just one batter, punching out a pair. Hawkins has pitched to a 2.45 ERA since joining the Missions. He has walked nine batters in 11 Texas League innings, but has been able to mitigate that a bit by striking out 13.

Roster Moves: Righty Josh Mallitz and left-hander Fernando Sanchez both joined the Missions bullpen from Fort Wayne. Righty reliever Ethan Routzahn went on the injured list in a corresponding move.

West Michigan Whitecaps 8, TinCaps 5

Key Statistics: SS Eguy Rosario 2-for-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI; C Brendan Durfee 1-for-3, HR (6), BB; 3B Zach Evans 2-for-4, 2 R; CF Kai Roberts 2-for-4, 2 R, SB (28); RHP Ian Koenig (L, 5-8) 5 IP, 8 H, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Nick Wissman 2 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps allowed three homers as they lost their seventh straight game to start the final series of the year. … Eguy Rosario is starting to resemble the player who has had success at every level he’s played at. The infielder connected on a pair of doubles and drove in three runs in the loss. Rosario homered twice on Sunday and is 6-for-15 over his last three games. The 26-year-old is in the Summit City rehabbing after sports hernia surgery. The infielder has had a miserable season, but he’s been a capable performer, including last season when he crushed left-handed pitching at the big league level. Rosario made his first appearance at shortstop for the TinCaps Tuesday. … Catcher Brendan Durfee reached base twice, including connecting on his sixth homer of the year. The 24-year-old has slugged better down the stretch after struggling through the season’s first half. Durfee didn’t hit his first homer until July 4, but he’s had six since then. He finished August with a .433 slugging percentage. … Righty Ian Koenig was battered by the best team in the Midwest League in what will likely be his final start of the season. Koenig was able to complete five innings, but he allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, including three homers. He walked two and struck out three. While Koenig has been fairly hittable this season, he has tossed at least five innings in 10 straight outings. In a career-high 103.1 innings, Koenig has a 5.40 ERA.

Roster Moves: First baseman Luke Cantwell, the Padres’ 20th round pick in July, was added to the TinCaps roster from the complex. He went 0-for-5 Tuesday in his pro debut. Righty Isaiah Lowe was placed on the seven-day injured list, ending a disappointing season.

Inland Empire 66ers 3, Storm 2 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: 1B Carlos Rodriguez 3-for-5, R; 2B Dylan Grego 2-for-5; SS Jorge Quintana 1-for-1, 2 BB, RBI; RHP Jaxon Dalena 2 IP, H, 3 BB, 2 K; RHP Kleiber Olmedo 2.1 IP 2 H, ER, 3K; LHP Ryan Reed 1.2 IP, 3 H, BB; RHP Bernard Jose (L, 2-4) 0.2 IP, 1R (0 ER), BB

Prospect Watch: The Storm had plenty of opportunities to win this one, but they went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position before Inland Empire pushed across a run in the bottom of the tenth to defeat them at San Manuel Stadium. … Carlos Rodriguez had a solid night at the plate with three singles in the loss. In 46 games for the Storm, the 22-year-old is hitting .277/.406/.438 with three homers and 25 RBI. The left-handed hitting catcher, who has also seen some time at first base, has topped 200 plate appearances for the first time in his five seasons in the organization. … After having an OPS north of 1.000 last week, Storm second baseman Dylan Grego had a pair of singles. Grego has multi-hit games in five of his last six. While most of the Padres’ draft class has struggled with the Storm, the former Ball State infielder has been the exception. He’s hitting a solid .257/.333/.406 with Lake Elsinore. … The Storm had another bullpen game on Tuesday with Jaxon Dalena starting things off. He tossed a pair of scoreless innings, despite walking three batters. He also had two strikeouts. Dalena was a sixth-round senior signee out of Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. He’s notched nine strikeouts in five innings with the Storm. … Lefty Ryan Reed made his professional debut and tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball. He allowed three hits and walked one. The 21-year-old was drafted in the 15th round in 2025 out of Pittsburgh. He had a 5.01 ERA in 14 starts for the Panthers this year.

Roster Moves: The Storm activated 2025 first-rounder Kruz Schoolcraft, and he will make his professional debut Saturday, presumably on a very limited pitch count. Reed and righty Will Koger were both added to the Storm bullpen, while lefty Igor Gil and righty Charlie Walker hit the injured list.
